I've been giving Martin grief for wearing white boots and this week I turned up in white shorts. Apparently this comes pretty close to a Sunday league footballing faux par. Thanks to Ryan for pointing that one out.
Faux par excused Ryan set in a motion a chain of events that culminated in a once a season event. Ryan to Gui to Martin to me. Ok that's the supporting acts out of the way on to the main event. Taking the ball on my left side, just past the halfway line and slipping between two defenders, I made Martin's pass look great. In fact bearing down in a one-on-one situation with the keeper I made it look even better. Add to that a move to the right of goal thus giving me the angle to try to chip to the left (of the keeper) and now Martin's pass is looking like freaking gold. The keeper got a hand to the chip but it continued on towards the goal, along with me and the fast charging defender. The ball was basically over the line as I got there first to give it a final stab. 2 - 0 and we're cruising. Dang it! that really was a nice pass made to look brilliant. Chalk up another one in the football accomplishments list, a goal with my 'other' foot. Also a lesson for the kids - always follow through.
Ludwik had a different take on the goal and it goes something like this: 'So you managed to shoot weakly at the keeper who made a complete mess of saving it. Being too lazy expend energy to stop running you stumbled towards the goal unintentionally knocking the ball into the back of the net. Basically you managed to execute a really bad back pass'. Hey that's what mates are for. I can't wait to write up his next goal but I based on current form I'll be waiting for a while.
Martin obviously arrived fully equipped for this game and fully recovered from his blow to the sensitive area. I mention this because Gui sent in a cross and Martin was up like a spawning salmon to crack a bullet header towards the goal. I think the keeper tipped it over the cross bar but it was good to see the lad with a spring in his step again. A spring in his step and normal serviced resumed to his shooting. I'm having serious doubts about whether he really scored last week.
We were getting a bit flash again when we were 4 - 0 up but playing really nice football, short passes, winning the ball in midfield and the defense doing more than just hoofing the ball at every opportunity. Faud got injured so that meant a spell in goal once he was able to walk but still it was bad luck to be in goal as we all stood around and watched the opposition bear down on our wounded comrade. I can't complain too much though since we finished up winning 4 - 1 and we're undefeated for about 6 matches by my reckoning. The cream always rises to the top.
